Buddy Scalera is a content strategist working in Parsippany, NJ. He his part of a team that delivers powerful, scaleable digital content strategy campaigns that deliver measurable marketing results for health and pharmaceutical brands.

Formerly he was Senior Vice President of Interactive Content and Market Research at Ogilvy CommonHealth Worldwide - Interactive Marketing, an award-winning agency based in New Jersey.

He is an engaging and entertaining speaker who makes it fun to learn about digital marketing, content strategy, social media marketing, mobile marketing, pharmaceutical branding, closed-loop marketing, and ebooks.

He is a co-host on the RX Digital Marketing Podcast with Chris Cullmann and Matt Balogh.

Hands-On Digital Expertise

For over 17 years, Buddy has been writing copy, designing images, and coding multimedia assets in digital channels. He is a rare creative who embraced technology early and continues to keep his skills current. He built this website from HTML/CSS templates and uses WordPress for his marketing/tech blog.

He has also coded ebooks, produced digital videos, edited photos, and manages a successful online presence in social media. Buddy keeps his creative and technical skills up to date by actually doing stuff.

Pharma Marketing

Buddy started his career as a journalist and entered the pharmaceutical industry as a medical writer/editor. He has created consumer and professional health content for Fortune 50 clients. From basic consumer health websites to mobile marketing campaigns for doctors, Buddy plans and delivers marketing content that motivates and engages the target audience.

Buddy has worked with a variety of prestigious clients including Merck, Pfizer, AZ, J&J, GSK, Medtronic, Novartis, Bayer, Reckitt Benckiser, Medco Health Solutions, and others.

He continues to write informative (and occassionally brilliant) copy for a variety of channels and mediums, including web, audio, video, print, social, ebooks, and more.


Buddy has published five non fiction books. Four of these books feature his photography, which is popular among comic book artists and other creative souls. He's also published three multimedia CD-ROMs of his photography.

Buddy does his own photography production including casting, lighting, workflow, photo editing, and of course shooting.

He's an active photographer with published work in books including Body Dump, Doll Fashionistas, and more. He also served as the Interactive Consultant on the book Artist's Digital Photo Reference - Landscapes.

He has also photographed creative projects for painter Dave DeVries and film director Scott Klein (for the movie "4 For Dinner ").

Scalera holds a BA in Journalism from Hofstra University and was a staff reporter for the local newspaper.

He has written over 150 articles on health, politics, government, multimedia, marketing, comic books, games, movies, television and much more.

Comic Books

Buddy Scalera is a comic book writer, self-publisher, educator, and industry critic. He has written dozens of comic books for mainstream publishers including Marvel Comics.

He has written stories that include top licensed properties, including the X-Men, Deadpool, Richie Rich, Elvira, and many others.

He is the author of five comic related books, which are featured on his educational website at ComicBookSchool.com.

As a comics industry thought leader, Scalera was featured as a professional source in a chapter of the published book The Science of Superheroes  by Lois Gresh and Robert Weinberg. For over four years, Scalera also wrote and hosted “ComixVision,” a cable-access television show that explained the comic book hobby to mainstream viewers.

At his previous job, Scalera was the original Online Editor for Wizard Entertainment. He was joined by Rus Wooton in developing Wizardworld.com, Wizardschool.com, Toyfare.com, Toywishes.com, and Inquestmag.com.

Under Scalera's direction, the Wizardworld.com network of sites became one of the hottest daily destinations for comic book fans. The site featured an impressive array of news and feature content, which was leveraged as a marketing and promotions tool.

Scalera is also an active self-publisher in both print and digital ebook formats. He has published many comic book titles including the critically acclaimed 7 Days to Fame series.
